Tribute to our injured talisman - Stuart

It is with great sadness and regret that we report that our ex-president and talisman, Stuart Ho is out for the rest of the current 15s season. During the friendly match against ACJC on the 11th of July, crowd-favourite Stuart was severely injured after coming on as a substitute. After making one of his typical bursts down the wing, Stuart offloaded the ball to Ian Gan in the midst of a tackle and suffered a clean break of his ankle. Coincidentally, in the same sequence Ian sprained his ankle in a tackle.

Stuart has been one of the leaders and stars of this SMU Rugby team. Always a warrior , Stuart has always been at the forefront of the action, taking and making hits for the team. Ronald Cher, vice-president, eyes red from the tears, had this to say, " Stuart is a valued member in the team. more importantly he has been a great friend to all of us. Someone that we can rely on, from the field to school to getting sloshed. Most notably, is his leadership as president in championing the SUNIG 7's last year. He has been a personal friend who extends any help I ask of him. Stuart, I wish you all the best in your recovery."

On behalf of everyone in the team and all your supporters, we wish you a quick and complete recovery and hope to see you back at your explosive best in no time.

2012 Executive Committee

We are proud to introduce the new SMU Rugby Executive Committee for the year 2012. After the first democratic elections for presidency and vice-presidency, Blandon 'the hulk' Tan and Ronald 'the beast' Cher will take over the top two positions in the committee, taking over from incumbents, Stuart 'stooey baby' Ho and Wong 'tough love' Kah Wei.

Blandon 'the hulk' Tan in one of his high psychotic moments

Blandon Tan, one of the bright stars of SMU Rugby has pledged an all out revamp of the club culture and a return to winning ways. During the election campaigning, he promised to garner regular attendance for trainings and to focus the training on the upcoming 15s tournament. Taking heart from the strong showing during the training for 7s and the SUniG 7s tournament, he has pledged his soul to SMU Rugby. However he did emphasise a caveat, "In order to step up and get back to winning ways, we need to have the committment of every player and i mean to lead by example. Everyone must share the same goals and the same vision." We are pleased at having Blandon as the new President and look forward to future silverware.

Ronald 'the beast' Cher

Ronald has been with SMU Rugby for close to a year and has been central to the resurgence of the team. Powerful in his runs and unforgiving in his tackles, Ronald has for some time been part of the leadership group in SMU Rugby. His passion for the team and his refusal to let anything stand in his way has made him a crowd favourite. During his NS days, he still came for trainings and has worked hard and shed blood for the team. We have no doubt that he will be central to the future of SMU Rugby.

SMU Rugby wishes the new Executive Committee well and hopes that they can surpass the efforts and results of the previous exco in bringing the glory days back.

Finally, SMU Rugby also pays tribute to the outgoing exco for their unwavering dedication to the team and the hard work they have put in for the year of 2011. Special thanks to Stuart Ho for leading the team and always being there for the team in every capacity. Special thanks is also reserved for Aldric Chew for being the best Finance Director that SMU Rugby has known and for always going down for trainings.

VOTE NICKLAUS TANG & ANDY EA FOR SSU

SMU Rugby's top choices in this years SMU Sports Union(SSU) executive committee's elections are Nicklaus Tang and Andy Ea. Without an SMU Rugby representative running for elections to succeed incumbent SSU President Daniel Kong, SMU Rugby are instead endorsing these two candidates.

Nicklaus Tang, an indispensable member of the SMU Water Polo team(Aquatic Sharks), envisions a harmonisation of all the sporting bodies and to spread the love amongst all sports(Rumor has it that Nick Tang is currently dating SMU Rugby superstars Wong Kah Wei & Stuart Ho - but all parties refuse to confirm or deny this). Andy Ea, SMU Floorball's superstar shares in Nick Tang's vision(and we will not speculate what else).

PLEASE DO VOTE FOR THESE CANDIDATES WHO PROMISE A LOVE - AND CANDY - FILLED SSU.

On a side note, SMU Rugby would like to congratulate Daniel Kong on a wonderful job done during his tenure as President of SSU. We wish him success in all his future endeavours.
