The Singapore University Games are kicking off tonight at the NTU Sports & Recreation Pitch where The City Boys face off against their fierce rivals, The Boon Lay Warriors of NTU at 7:45pm.

SMUrugbyNews reporters got down on the ground for the low down on what to expect in the 2015 edition of the Singapore University Games.

The City Boys are blessed this year with a squad of almost 40 players who are all available for selection. Similar to the last 2 seasons, the SMU forward pack is abundant in numbers and diverse in playing positions. The current squad sees props who can double up as loose forwards and locks that can cover in the front row when needed. With the inclusion of Freshmen Rama & Thad who signed a 4 year deal with the City Boys earlier this year, they add immense work rate and aggression to the squad.

Ronald Cher, veteran prop and SMU Superstar also put pen to paper this season by extending his contract till December 2015. Cher, who is due to collect his CPF next year wants to end his final semester at SMU with a bang and add another medal to his collection.

Boasting a squad of close to 55 players, NUS are the current SUNIG champions and are definitely looking to show a fierce title defence this year. With National 7s representatives Nick Yao and Keith Arriola holding the fort in the backline this season, the NUS squad definitely looks to be lethal out wide with experience and immense speed. Daniel Looi, who is rumoured to be playing at 10 this season will look to unleash his back line with his skills and tricks that made him infamous during his schoolboy rugby days at ACSI and ACJC.

NUS has unfortunately lost the services of star flanker Russell Wong, who was ruled out for this season after going under the knife to repair torn ligaments in his knee a few months ago. We wish Russell a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on the pitch soon!

The Clementi Bad Boys are always a team to watch at the Uni games, be it 7s or 15s they always seem to put on a good fight and turn the tables on the opposition. Last season, they took on NTU and came up on top in a well deserved victory showing their prowess and aggression at scrum time and at the trenches of the rucks.

SIM legend and legend in general, Bryan Lim has graduated and will not feature in the SIM squad in this campaign, along with the likes of Jonah Wee and Alex Lim who have also finished school earlier this year.

SIM has an entire legion of players who play active club rugby and the experience that comes with that playing at University level is truly priceless. Can the Clementi Bad Boys live up to their reputation and put in a few upsets? Head on down to the games to find out!

The Boon Lay Warriors, led by the ever reliable and versatile Daniel Lum are definitely title contenders in this years edition of the Uni games. Fresh with overseas experience at a recent tournament in Malaysia, NTU rugby would definitely look to add the aggression they faced up north to their arsenal coming into their campaign.

NTU also has Matty Chia, an asset with his sneaky counter attacks and ability to control the game comfortably with whatever jersey number on his back, from 9 to 15.

With their first match against SMU later tonight, the rugby world would definitely be anxious to see who comes up on top this epic fixture.

Earlier this week, rumours began to surface of a new face in the SMU locker rooms. Spotted ordering his daily intake of protein at the Koufu western stall, the mysterious SMU secret weapon has aroused much speculation.
Showboating or squatting?

With the Uni 15s just around the corner, SMU Rugby players have been seen working hard outside of the regular field sessions doing track work and pumping iron in the gym. These individual sessions have been emphasised months ago and it is heartening to see the players displaying discipline and grit by clocking in the hard yards and gains progressively.

Just this evening, SMUrugbyNews correspondents spotted 2 of our stars squatting outside the safe confines of the gym environment. Unsupervised gym or squat sessions is something we do not tolerate and these 2 players will definitely be served a hefty fine from the club. What made the situation worse than it already was is that they decided to start their sets in front of a group of <strike>freshmeat</strike> freshmen at BONDUE Camp.

SMUrugbyNews managed to catch the duo for their comments on the matter.

SMUrugbyNews: What were you two thinking?

Jamal: Well the gym did not have enough weights to add to my last few sets. I had to improvise. Lenny was the closest person that seemed like a challenge as Mongoose was busy as always with the <strike>freshmeat</strike> freshmen.

Lenny: Sorry mate. I was following the lead of Jamal. He said the only way he can play Number 8 again was to get some explosive squats going. Sorry once again mate.

SMUrugbyNews will be investigating this matter further and issue and updated statement in the next 24 hours.
Ben Teong in full glory

It has been 4 long years since City Boy legend, Ben Teong set foot on the rugby field donning SMU colours. After a long hiatus, Ben finally decided to join the City Boy camp for his first training tonight, with mixed feelings.

Ben Teong will be starting his JD Program in August and reached out to SMU Rugby to have a second bite at the ever so sweet cherry he could never let go of. SMUrugbyNews caught up with Ben for a quick chat after the intense session earlier.

SMUrugbyNews: Welcome back Ben! How does it feel to be a City Boy again?

Ben Teong: It feels great actually. It is as though I never left! The banter is similar and the team is really friendly. I feel right at home.

SMUrugbyNews: How do you think you can contribute to the team? Being the most experienced and oldest?

Ben Teong: As always, Old is gold. I definitely can share my experiences as a City Boy and teach the boys a few things or two about living it up on campus.

SMUrugbyNews: Did you know that the girls coming in as Freshmen this August are 10 years younger than you?

Ben Teong: Fuck.

Ask any SMU student or rugger on campus what was their most memorable experience during summer and most would say the drinking, girls, internship, drinking after an internship workday, meeting girls after an internship workday or a commensuration of the two latter.

There is however, a rare breed of individuals who step out of their comfort zone and make the most out of their summer through the annual SMU Sports Camp.

SMU Sports Camp has the highest sign up rate on campus and proves year after year to be the most fun and memorable camp to be at before jumping into the 4 years of euphoria that SMU has to offer.

SMU Rugby has always played an integral part of the camp. We are proud of our boys who step up and make a difference to the new batch of incoming freshmen to our beloved institution.

SMU Sports Camp 2015 seems to be hyped up to be the biggest edition yet, with a name like REKT (Which we believe is an acronym for the words, Responsibility, Efficiency, Knowledge and Trust) who can deny this is the camp to be seen at.

SMU Rugby is proud to say it has 13 (YES THIRTEEN!) members part of the Sports Camp 2015 crew. They range from being Organising Committee Members, Facilitators, Clan Heads or even just as Helpers.

Out of these 13, 8 are facilitators and clan heads - the most sought after role in Sports Camp. Candidates for these positions had to go through a very rigid and impartial selection process to earn the title of "Camp Faci".

SMUrugbyNews is proud to present to you the Ruggers of Sports Camp 2015! - seen below in full glory and costume.

It is with sadness we announce the graduation of Jesse Quek from the SMU Rugby camp. Jesse played his last tournament with the team today racking up a couple of tries and a few mazy runs that put a smile to many faces, including his.

Jesse is undoubtedly The City Boys favourite son, having been with the squad way before his matriculation in 2011. The stumpy and lovable In-Center has been an integral part of SMU Rugby and the culture that it has developed today. SMU Rugby cannot find another man to represent the values and traits he stood for, even up till the dying seconds of his last match this afternoon, Jesse gave his all and never backed down.

Jesse shows exemplary fortitude and determination and never slips away in limbo. He has truly been an inspiration to all freshmen who've come under his wing and downed bottles of Tiger Beer at our beloved food court at Holland Village. Being seen as one of the most approachable and friendly guys in the squad and University, it is truly hard to find anyone who shares negative moments with this fine specimen of a man.

SMUrugbyNews would like to thank Jesse for all he has done for the club and what it stands for. His selflessness and grit has definitely clawed SMU Rugby out of the dark ages and also brought it to its peak and prime.

Cheers to you, Jesse Quek! Enjoy this lot of pictures we dug up from the archives. Thank you for everything, and the memories. <3

After 2 consecutive 15s seasons, Tertiary rugby finally sees 7s rugby action this Saturday at the NTU field.

Besides the usual University suspects, Republic Polytechnic and Singapore Polytechnic are making an appearance for the first time. Republic Polytechnic are the current kings of the Polytechnic circuit and Singapore Polytechnic are close on their heels.

SMUrugbyNews tried speaking to the respective managers for a preview of their squads, but all remained tight lipped and hesitant to speak.

We do know however that all University squads are missing their marquee 7s stars, who are in full on training for the SEA Games happening in June. These players include Martin Butler and Nick Yao from NUS, Ex City Boy and NIE/NTU gas man Bryan Ng and Blandon Tan from SMU.

Speaking to Blandon Tan earlier today, SMUrugbyNews got his insights and thoughts about tomorrows tournament

Blandon Tan, SMU Rugby
SMUrugbyNews: Good to speak to you Blandon! What are your thoughts on the 7s tournament tomorrow?

Blandon: I think its great to see some of the Polytechnic teams step up and compete at a higher level, a long time ago, rugby did have IVP(Inter Varsity-Poly) games but were ceased due to age differences and something silly like size advantage. The game is evolving and players are getting bigger and badder. It's a good thing that this tertiary tournament is featuring these teams, it could be the push that IVP rugby needs!

So if you want to catch the youth of Singapore Rugby tear up the pitch tomorrow, do head down to NTU field where the games kick off at 9am!

SMU Rugby would like to apologise to our super star flanker, Marcus Ang for submitting the wrong club name on the Sports Awards Night nomination form.

We understand that this caused great confusion within The City Boys camp and around the SMU Campus.

SMUrugbyNews spoke to Marcus Ang within minutes of the incident and he had this to say.

"SMU Sports Union uploaded its marketing collaterals for the upcoming event earlier this morning reflecting "Flare" under my name. I know some have said I do bring flare and passion to the field and training, but as you can see, I am nominated for Mr Stud. No one cares if I am inspiring or got the skills. This award is all about my looks and figure. I expect a public apology from SMU Rugby for this f*ck up"

Do vote for Mongoose at the following link and cement his unofficial tag as Mr Stud around SMU!
Amos Siow - The man that started it all.

SMUrugbyNews will like to pay tribute to one of the founding fathers of the club and the infamous City Boy spirit that makes us and fans proud to be a part of SMU Rugby.

Amos Siow, one of the original City Boys from the Class of 2010 hung up his boots over the weekend after years of service to his respective schools, clubs, country and of course, SMU Rugby from 2007-2010.

Many of the younger City Boys and fans may also like to take note that Amos Siow created this rugby blog and its legacy. The following this page receives has increased over the years and this can all be credited to Amos. Who would have thought he would have created the most cited and credible source in SMU!

SMUrugbyNews got in touch with Amos and faced its most serious interview to date, here is how it went down.

SMUrugbyNews: What did SMU Rugby mean to you?
Amos Siow: SMU rugby, at that point in time, it was one of the set-ups or teams that i was more involved with. It was one of the teams I really enjoyed playing for during that time. We were a very young club then, and what we wanted to do was leave behind a legacy or tradition for other young players to come through the ranks and enjoy what the club had to offer.
Jesse(3rd from right) seen with his BONDUE comrades

Saturday, 24th January at Republic Polytechnic Field. City Boy senior, Jesse Quek received a surprise call from BONDUE, the Business School student body to represent them at the annual Inter-Faculty Games (IFG) Touch Rugby tournament.

Quek, who last put on the BONDUE shirt in 2012 as a Sophomore found it tough to put it back on again over the weekend, requesting a fresh shirt mere minutes before kick off.

When SMUrugbyNews contacted BONDUE, they had this to say,

"Jesse Quek is a man of class. He has been with the BONDUE IFG Team since its dark ages, when we could never win and always finish at the tail end of the competition. Jesse has seen the BONDUE IFG Team achieve success and stand together in failure. We needed a man of his capability and knowledge."

- Kor Porat Kom, BONDUE PR Executive

SMUrugbyNews understands that the average age of the BONDUE team was 21years old. Veteran Quek, who still remains youthful at 26 years old stood out amongst these younglings. Showcasing his silky hands and ballerina feet throughout the tournament, Quek inspired his team mates and eventually brought them to victory, defeating SOSCIETY by a close margin.

Quek executing the classic, "Show & Go"

SMUrugbyNews managed to speak to an elated Quek after the tournament, covered in champagne and confetti.

SMUrugbyNews: Congrats Jesse! How does it feel to be back in BONDUE Blue?

Quek: F*cking amazeballs! I was sitting by the Farrer Park Longkang fishing for Ikan Bilis and I got the call up. I never thought this day would come again! My BONDUE blue days seemed like something of the past, but when BONDUE calls, will you answer?

SMUrugbyNews: How was it playing with players 6-7 years younger than you?

Quek: These kids are something special. They are a different breed, their hunger and drive is something that set them apart from the rest of the competition. I felt like Stephen Donald out there over the weekend, coming on to the squad at such a late stage of the competition and making it count when I needed to.

Quek compared his performance to Stephen Donald during the 2011 Rugby World Cup

So there you have it folks, a story that raised a faculty off their feet and shook the halls of the library. Congrats to Quek & Team Bondue for winning the IFG Touch Rugby tournament over the weekend!
It was been noticed however, in the weeks that past after the SUNIG games, a certain group of players took part in a "local exchange program" to maintain their match fitness and rugby prowess.

We all know how the technical aspect of the game has changed in the last decade and little things like grip strength during a line out and even finishing moves upon a try celebration can make the difference between a glorious win or a tragic loss.

SMUrugbyNews conducted a study and went down on the mats to find out more about this inaugural exchange program and how it can reap benefits far beyond the original intentions.

Tackling techniques being applied, the double tackle

From the empirical research, we observed many trends and similarities between the techniques used, as seen above - the double tackle being executed perfectly(with the safety of the mat of course)

Other findings include obvious positive psychological aspects, where our players on exchange noted how there were "prettier faces at practice" (M. Ang, 2014) and "eh the skirts are cute" (V. Thomas, 2014).

This positive increase in morale can be accounted to the change in environment and inclusion of females to the previously male dominated training setting of Turf City that The City Boys are used to.

We are aware that there were limitations to this study, as this exchange program has only been going on for a few weeks.

Our first limitation draws upon this exact time factor, as perception and actual thoughts from the City boys may differ if observations were conducted over a longer time frame.

The second limitation would be the attire our City Boys wore as they took part in the exchange program. Fashion and Fad sociologist, Avinash Raju has proven that choice of clothing does make a significant difference in ones performance and how they actually present themselves in a public setting.

This new attire may have added response bias to our research, as theorised above. We do not deny that the City Boys on exchange are looking good as they kit up though!

Standard attire during the Exchange Program

That is all the time we have for this busy and hectic Week 13, stay tuned for a more detailed study on this exchange program in time to come as we try to battle and overcome the limitations mentioned above!

*DISCLAIMER: NO RUGGERS WERE HURT DURING THE PARTICIPATION OF THIS STUDY

Behind the scenes

#OOTD, #WIWT, #INSTAFASHION, THE LIST GOES ON! We have all seen and occasionally posted images on our social media outlets that have these exact hashtags, whether we like to admit it or not, we are all guilty of taking part in this necessary evil.

#OOTD or Outfit of The Day for those who have been living in the caves Li Ka Shing Library's dungeons has become popular of late. Especially within The City Boys camp where star winger and fashionista, Avinash has been labelled the epitome of the #OOTD.

Avinash and a car

SMURugbyNews is grateful and fortunate to get a chance to speak to Avinash despite his busy schedule about this phenomena taking over the social media world like wildfire.

SMURugbyNews: So Avi, tell us more about this #OOTD craze

Avinash: Well, I wouldn't exactly call it a craze. I see it as more of a norm. How else can the world see what I wear everyday.

SMURugbyNews: Interesting! How do you recommend newcomers who plan to enter this #OOTD world

Avinash: I would ask them to look at my posts on Instagram for starters. In terms of outfits, I would recommend mixing it up, never do a back to back denim day, or back to back berms day. Mix up shirts and shorts, jeans and shirts, just stay fabulous!

SMURugbyNews: How about during the season? Don't you wear the same jersey every game?

Avinash: Maybe we could get customised kits depending on the day of the week and who we play against. This is something I would leave for further discussion but when it comes to game time, it is about the player and team.. not the kit(ok maybe a little bit)

Be it starry eyed props checking out their batch mates strut it out on the cat walk or Shaun Ng adding everyone from Miss Popular to the Bash Logistics chicks on Facebook.

A year has gone by since newly appointed Captain, Avinash took the title of Mr SMU on the dance floor of Zouk. Unfortunately this year, the rugby presence at the Freshmen Bash was missing.

Mr SMU 2013, Avinash

We have however made up for this with THREE City Boys competing be crowned Mr Economist 2014(Mr Oikos)

Rumour has it the winner walks away with a bundle that includes a 3 year supply of The Economist and Readers Digest.
Ken Koh

No stranger to The City Boys set up, Ken already has one Gold medal under his belt and his looking to get more(Gold Medals that is).

Can Ken achieve 100% line out success and hook his way to right area of the Production Possibility Frontier?

SMUrugbyNews: So Ken, being a "senior" player amongst the freshies, do you ever feel like you are under pressure to win this pageant?

Ken: I wouldn't consider myself a "senior" so to speak, but I do feel I have the upper hand. I have a Gold Medal and Ashley by my side.

The City Boys emerged as champions in the recent Quad-University Rugby Championship held in March 2014.

It was a huge season with many ups and downs but we are glad to say it all paid off eventually! Read on for our post season report.

SMU vs NTU (Round Robin)

The first match of the season did not go according to plan for us, with numerous penalties given away and lacklustre defence from both the forwards and the backs, we were put on the back foot many times and suffered the consequences of being ill disciplined.

With close to about 20 penalty calls against our name, the mistakes made by us were capitalised on by NTU's kicker, who slotted in 15 points worth of kicks. An additional 2 tries were scored by the opposition that increased the margin.

The final score was 21-6 to NTU.

SMU vs NUS (Round Robin)

This was a do or die fixture for both teams, from past tournaments, the victor of this fixture usually goes on to the Finals. Both teams were pumped and were fresh after a week off from their last match.

The NUS squad featured a few age group and current National reps that were all fired up and ready to go.

The game was intense from the first kick off, which was kicked directly out to touch. The tempo then built up and The City Boys found the form they were looking for this whole season, with some tinkering of positions and new plays being added, The City Boys gelled effectively and the cohesion seen between the rummaging forwards and silky handed backs was magical.

Mistakes and ill disciplined was drastically reduced and the morale within the SMU camp was high. Pressure eventually turned into points and we managed to secure a 17-10 victory after an 80min game that felt like an eternity.

SMU vs SIM (Round Robin)

Last seasons shock loss to the Clementi Bad Boys were still fresh in the minds of the team, which was probably the biggest turning point in the last year that encouraged and motivated the new Exco led by Tang Hon Wei to seek change.

The City Boys needed a victory with a bonus point, and NTU to beat NUS for us to go on to the final.

The odds were in our favour but the dark horses of the tournament, SIM mounted several attacks that tested our defence out wide. Their new look back line was always threatening but our versatile backs, led by the dominant figure of Jesse Quek stood tall and strong, keeping the Clementi Bad Boys at bay.

The first 60mins of the game was extremely tight, with SIM scoring a try and taking the lead till the SMU forward pack unleashed their inner beasts and mounted several pick and go efforts. The flood gates eventually opened and SMU emerged 33-8 victors.

News came shortly after the final whistle that NTU had indeed beaten NUS by a close scoreline of 15-10. Celebrations all around as The City Boys were to make an appearance in the Final after a 5 year drought.

SMU vs NTU (FINALS)

A grudge match was predicted way before kick-off. Both teams were building momentum after 2 victories and the boys from NTU appeared as favourites, after their first round victory against The City Boys 2 weeks earlier.

The squad that took the field for the finals:

Marc Wilson (Year 1)

The game started off well for NTU, capitalising off a well executed move off a 5m scrum by the back row. With about 6 minutes into the game, The City Boys seemed to be in an all too familiar place, 5-0 down behind our try line.

The margin was reduced after Brandon Yow, slotted in a penalty in front of the posts. The score was now 5-3 to NTU with about 60minutes left in the game.

Another penalty attempt by Blandon Tan sailed over the crossbars to bring the score to 6-5, in favour of the City Boys.

The scoreline remained at 6-5 for the duration of the entire game, both teams showed their grit and determination with try saving tackles and rampaging attacks that kept the spectators entertained. It was truly an epic battle with both teams digging deep and pushing through.

The City Boys managed to stop any threat from the NTU attack and kept the scoreline at 6-5. The SMU forwards kept hammering up ruck after ruck in a showcase of brilliant ball retention and ordering around by Scrum Half, Wong Kah Wei.

The final whistle then blew and the 5 year drought of not seeing the Cup, ended with celebrations, cheers and a few bottles of Sparkling Apple Juice.

After months of tension and keeping it in the closest, Lucas and Avinash have officially declared their love for one another.

The Freshie Duo are often seen staying in school till late and studying together in the quiet area of the library. Sources say that this relationship first sparked off way back in 2009, when both players were representing their respective Junior Colleges in the A Div.

Avinash had put Lucas on the deck after a devastating run down the wing that left Lucas rooted to the ground whispering.. "i've never seen an ass like that".
We usher in the new year with one of the City Boys favourite sons - Jesse "The Belly" Quek.

Jesse is no stranger to the rugby scene here in Singapore and is one of the most iconic players that the club has ever seen. Jesse has just got back from a semester abroad and we were lucky enough to catch this playmaker fresh off the plane for this report.

Making his debut in 2011 after a successful summer signing from Saint Andrews Junior College, Quek has featured regularly and has literally been the heart and soul of The City Boys. When one mentions SMU Rugby, or even SMU - Jesse is the first name of their tongues.

Jesse started off his playing career in the #2 shirt, getting into the thick of the action as a ferocious forward clearing rucks almost as fast as he clears his pints at ICB.

Jesse then progressed to the back line in 2006 - at his club then, SAJC. Reports say that Jesse made the switch only because the biggest jersey available at that time was a #12, he has since kept that number and used the same trick over at SMU, semester after semester.

SMUrugbyNews caught up with Jesse over the weekend at Zouk and got a glimpse into the life of this superstar.

SMUrugbyNews: So Jesse, how have you been?

Jesse: Bloody brilliant! I just got back from exchange in Austria and I had a blast(chuckles). The weather was nice, the people are beautiful and the food was a gastronomical explosion in my mouth.

SMUrugbyNews: Thats nice! So, did you manage to play any rugby there?

Jesse: Cheers brah, Yes!! I did infact! This time the biggest jersey was a #9 and I managed to trick the team into thinking I was a scrum half.. I played scrum half for the season and even scored a few game winning points and tries. They loved me over there.. It is kind of like how you guys love me here.. but over there they speak German.

SMUrugbyNews: What would you say was the best part about your exchange in Europe?

Jesse: Have you watched EuroTrip? ;)

SMUrugbyNews: Moving ahead to the season that beckons, how do you rate your current squad now?

Jesse: aye aye! The squad this year seem tighter and more united than ever! We have a few games coming up and a rugby camp that is gonna be so much fun. We have also got some new players that are fighting for first team spots. I cannot wait to play with this team again. cheers brah! (Chuckles)

Nelson Mandela who was known to the world as a symbol of resistance to racism and brought South Africa to an all-race democracy.

''Mandela may not have understood rugby very well, but he understood the political impact sports could have. That’s why he seized on the Rugby World Cup. Mandela—in a tremendous act of self-interested generosity toward the vanquished whites—allowed South Africa to host the tournament, which had been awarded to the country in 1992. And then he convinced his black compatriots to make the Springbok team their own, even though there was only one nonwhite player on the 15-man roster. He did this by enlisting the white stars of the team to his cause, persuading them to learn the new national anthem (previously a song of black protest) and to reach out to what initially was a mightily skeptical black population.

The Springboks beat France, Australia and others to reach the final against New Zealand, then the best team in the world. But the day’s crowning moment came before the game had even begun, when Mandela went out onto the field, before a crowd of 65,000 that was 95% white, wearing the green Springbok jersey, the old symbol of oppression, beloved of his apartheid jailers. There was a moment of jaw-dropping disbelief, a sharp collective intake of breath, and suddenly the crowd broke into a chant, which grew steadily louder, of “Nelson! Nelson! Nelson!”

An hour and a half later, after a nerve-racking final seven minutes, the Springboks won the game. And then, when Mandela walked onto the field to present the trophy to South Africa’s captain, it was “Nelson! Nelson!” again, but even louder, and with tears now. The whole country, black and white, sang and danced into the night, united for the first time in its history around one cause, one delirious celebration. There was no civil war, no right wing terrorism, and Mandela achieved his life’s goal of creating what remains still today, and would have seemed almost impossible then: a stable, multiracial democracy."

The City Boys are all set to kick off their first 15s game of the 2013/14 season against Championship Powerhouse, Oldham Gold this Saturday at the Anglo-Chinese School(Independent) rugby pitch.

Oldham Gold, who take part in the Championship of Singapore Rugby League are on a bye this weekend due the SCC 7s happening on The Padang.

The City Boys have been training for about 3 weeks and will look to start the pre-season on a high and test out different combinations and positions amongst the players.

This weekend's game looks to see the debut of Year 1's, Avinash "Mr SMU" Raju, Norman "I'm actually a back" Yam, Chris "I think I'm a Forward" Feng, Lucas "Econs Hot Bod" Wong and basketball to rugby convert, Marc "Israel Folau" Wilson who has still yet to get a pair of rugby boots for Saturday's fixture.

Year 0's will also be on show. Vikki " Little Fijian" Krishnan and Marcus "Mongoose" Ang will add more firepower to the already dominant City Boys backrow.

The usual suspects will look to take the field as well. With newly elected President and Vice-Captain Tang Hon Wei and Brandon Yow leading the backs and Shaun Ng controlling the forward pack.

Do come down and support the City Boys this Saturday, 1030am at the ACS(I) rugby pitch!
In this week's issue of Player of the Week, SMUrugby News brings you our very own gym and fitness maestro, Jason Sum.

Jason, who picked up the sport at Junior College has made a strong and positive impact within the SMU rugby community - especially when he showed us all how beer and protein powder make an awesome drink called the Tiger Dinosaur.

Jason is also a newly elected Exco member and Co-Director of Operations.

Having a body fat percentage of only 1% and biceps comparable to the peaks of the Himalayas(See Figure 1 for reference), Sum has been one of the more inspiring members of the rugby team and a brilliant role model for the Freshmen.

Jason Sum is the epitome of hardwork and dedication. Having being raised in the tough streets of Whitley Road as a CJC student, he took the opportunity to work hard and make sure he got bigger and stronger to fend of any threats of nearby SCGS girls around the corner.

SMUrugby News managed to get a comment from fellow teammate, Hoi on his Protein Loaded Teddy Bear of a friend. This is what Hoi had to say, '' On good days, yes he is the hulk. Displaying god-given strength(Bicep curling what normal guys would bench). However more often than not, with a little alcohol, he evolves into a boomer. A bloated beast that spits horrendously smelling spew on seats of public transport".

Yow was uncontactable at the time but sources claim that Yow has moved on from his boy band phase to better and more girl orientated activities in life.

SMU Rugby's very own Political Analyst, Saran had this to say: ''I believe that this picture has come at a good time. With campaigning all over and the pressure of garnering votes done, Yow has probably done this as a strategic move to win the hearts of the people even further and add some comic relief to the atmosphere post voting...''

Do stay tuned as SMUrugby News tries to get in contact with Brandon "Coast to Coast" Yow for a more formal introduction and interview.HARRESHhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14316645217956058066noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3025650757879211788.post-2669520084598687922013-10-10T15:47:00.000+08:002013-10-10T15:47:35.520+08:00Mid-Term Bonding 2013On the 9th of October The City Boys had their first official gathering as a team leading up to the 2013/14 season.

We were all set to meet at 5.30pm and players came from all corners of the Campus, except for Arveen ofcourse, who came from home with a deflated rugby ball.

It was a good mix of senior players as well as the new Year Ones who were welcomed with open arms and raised cups of malted cereal grain.

A good start to the new season to come and a wonderful cohesion event that had some of the most inspiring speeches that the world has seen since the 300 movie. We'll let the pictures do the talking. Enjoy the last bit of recess week everyone!
